Bible In One Year: Genesis 42-43; Matthew 13:33-58

MESSAGE:

1 Thessalonians 5:22 says we should abstain from all appearances of evil. The key word here is appearances; that is, something that looks harmless but is not good. My child, anything that is not good is bad. So, there is nothing like ‘it’s not so bad. This is why the Bible didn’t say evil, it says ‘appearances. An appearance of evil may be wrong advice from a friend or classmate. Whenever you are advised to do anything that is capable of breaking your relationship with God, you should flee. For instance, if you are a girl and a boy keeps disturbing you that he wants to be your friend, you need to be careful. If a boy or a girl likes talking to you in privacy or in secluded places, you need to run.

If you must walk with God, you have to avoid the appearances of evil and evil itself. Hence, you should not be comfortable in the company of those who are not godly.

Prayer Point:

Father, please give me the grace to recognize evil from a distance and flee.

Hymn 9: I Am Thine O Lord

1.   I am Thine O Lord
I have heard Thy voice
And it told Thy love to me
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.

Chorus:
Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

2.   Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord
By the pow’r of grace divine
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope
And my will be lost in Thine.

3.   Oh, the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend.

4.   There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.
