Joseph's Journey of Return - TD Jakes Daily Devotional January-05-2024

TD Jakes (January-05-2024) Daily Devotional: Joseph's Journey of Return.

Bible Quote: "And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them: For his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a burial place of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre." - Genesis 50:12-13

The death and subsequent burial of Jacob, as orchestrated by Joseph, is not just an act of filial piety but a profound symbol of the cyclical nature of God’s providence and the importance of remaining true to one’s roots.

Joseph's Journey of Return - TD Jakes Daily Devotional January-05-2024

The completion of the 40-day embalming process, a reflection of the 400 years of Israel's future bondage and deliverance, sets the stage for a return to the homeland, signifying a full-circle journey.

Joseph's request to Pharaoh to bury his father in Canaan is a powerful testament to his unshaken identity and loyalty.

Despite rising to great heights in Egypt, Joseph remains firmly rooted in his heritage. This narrative teaches us a crucial lesson: success and favor should never detach us from our origins and foundational values.

As Joseph’s life illustrates, one can extend branches over the wall, reaching new heights and realms, without losing touch with where one came from.

The return journey of Jacob’s body, escorted by Egyptian soldiers, signifies the honor and respect accorded to Joseph and, by extension, to Jacob.

This procession across the desert was not just a burial march but a declaration of the divine favor and protection over Joseph's family.

It's a reminder that when God is with us, our journey, no matter how perilous, is under His safeguard.

The culmination of this journey in the Promised Land, where Jacob is finally laid to rest in the family burial site, marks a poignant moment of reconnection with his lineage.

The separation of family from the Egyptian entourage at the final burial site mirrors the intimate and personal nature of our walk with God.

There are dimensions of our spiritual journey where only those connected by faith and spirit can accompany us.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the lessons learned from Joseph's journey of returning his father to their homeland. Help us to remember our roots and stay true to our identity in You, no matter how far we reach. Remind us that Your providence brings our life's journey full circle and that in every stage, Your protection and favor are with us. Teach us to discern those intimate moments in our walk with You that are reserved for those truly connected in spirit and purpose. Amen.
