Open Heavens Devotional – 22nd June 2026 Topic: LORD OVER TIME
[caption id="attachment_16090" align="alignnone" width="217"]MEMORISE: Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: John 11:25
READ: John 2:1-11 (KJV) 1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: 2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. 3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. 4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. 5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. 6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. 7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. 9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, 10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. 11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
MESSAGE: The Almighty God is truly powerful. He is Lord over all, and He is so powerful that He can bring the future into the present.
In today’s Bible reading, Jesus, His mother, and His disciples attended a wedding. In the course of the celebration, His mother learnt that the hosts had run out of wine and she informed Jesus who responded by saying, “My time has not yet come.”
Notwithstanding, Jesus instructed the servants at the wedding to fill six waterpots with water and then draw out some of it for the governor of the ceremony. As they did so, the water miraculously turned into wine. Jesus simply reached into the future and changed the time from ‘not yet’ to ‘now.’
I pray that if there is anything you are trusting God for that seems to have been delayed, it will come into manifestation now, in Jesus’ name.
In John 11:1-17, Lazarus died and had been buried for four days before Jesus arrived on the scene.
Naturally, his case was a hopeless one because a four-day-old corpse would have started decomposing already. However, when Jesus arrived at Lazarus’ home, He told Martha, his sister, that her brother would rise again.
If Jesus had arrived on the day Lazarus died, Martha might have had a glimmer of hope that Jesus could raise her brother from the dead. However, he had been dead for four days, and she said, “Lord, by this time he stinketh…” (John 11:39).
Even though Jesus had not yet died and resurrected, He reached into the future to become the Resurrection and the Life for Lazarus’ sake (John 11:25). He took on an identity that was reserved for after his death and resurrection and called Lazarus out of the grave.
Beloved, we serve a God who is not bound by time. He created time itself and is Lord over it. This is why you should not despair when it seems like you have lost some opportunities, or when you are in a terrible situation that seems to be beyond redemption. When you are faced with such circumstances, all God requires you to do is have faith in Him, and as Jesus said in John 11:40 “...if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God…”
I pray today that if there is any situation in your life that has been judged to be dead and stinking, such a situation will experience the Resurrection and the Life, in Jesus’ name.
KEY POINT: God is the master of time, and He can turn it whichever way He pleases.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalms 95-103
HYMN 8: I NEED THEE EVERY HOUR
Commentary for Open Heavens Readers
This devotional reveals a profound truth about God: He is Lord over time. Using the miracles at Cana and the resurrection of Lazarus, Pastor E.A. Adeboye shows that Jesus can accelerate timelines and bring the future into the present. What seems delayed or dead in your life can receive sudden divine intervention when you believe.
Do not despair over lost time or “stinking” situations. God is the Resurrection and the Life. Your “not yet” can become “now” when the Lord of time steps in.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You that You are the Resurrection and the Life. I believe You can turn every delayed promise and dead situation in my life into life and glory. Accelerate Your timetable for my breakthrough and cause my “not yet” to become “now”, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
May the Lord accelerate your miracles today. Stay blessed!
