MEMORISE: And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. Psalm 40:3

READ: Isaiah 43:18-22 (KJV)

18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.

19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

20 The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen.

21 This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.

22 But thou hast not called upon me, O Jacob; but thou hast been weary of me, O Israel.

23 Thou hast not brought me the small cattle of thy burnt offerings; neither hast thou honoured me with thy sacrifices. I have not caused thee to serve with an offering, nor wearied thee with incense.

24 Thou hast bought me no sweet cane with money, neither hast thou filled me with the fat of thy sacrifices: but thou hast made me to serve with thy sins, thou hast wearied me with thine iniquities.

25 I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Genesis 13-17

Open Heaven For Today 2023 MESSAGE

Today, I’ll be concluding my discussion on letting go of all the old things that can limit God from doing new things in your life. I pray that nothing will hinder the new things God has planned for you this year, in Jesus’ name.

For 430 years, the children of Israel were in captivity in Egypt (Exodus 12:40). They were in bondage under Pharaoh and the Egyptians until one night when God decided to bring them out. God did a new thing, and a nation was born in one day. God is not bound by time or any other limitations around us. He said in Jeremiah 32:27 that nothing is too hard for Him to do.

God can do new things in strange ways that will cause men to marvel at His great wonders. It is in the realm of men that we say that there is nothing new; after all, Ecclesiastes 1:9 says that there is nothing new under the sun. However, God dwells above the sun; He dwells in the heavens and does as He pleases (Psalm 115:3).

Now, when God says that He will make all things new, there are certain things He expects from a fellow who is about to enter into His newness. As I mentioned yesterday, God will not put old wine in new wineskins (Luke 5:37-39). Thus, if you are going to enter into the new things that God has in store for you this year, you must be prepared to reposition yourself.

The question, however, is, how can you position yourself for the new things that God wants to do in your life? You can reposition yourself through persistent prayers. Jesus once told the story of a widow who wanted a total turnaround in her life. For a long time, she had been tormented by her adversary, and she kept going to the judge for help. Her persistent visits eventually made the judge to arise and help her. Jesus told this story to emphasize the importance of persistent prayers in changing things (Luke 18:1-5). Prayer births new things or levels; it is like a pot in which new things are cooked before they are served.

Beloved, don’t let the adversary keep you trapped in your old level. Cry unto God like the Israelites, and He will surely do a new thing in your life (Exodus 3:7-8). Engage the power of prayer to enter into the new things that God has prepared for you and your family in this new year.

Prayer Point

Father, please give me the grace to be persistent in prayer until I receive all the new things you have prepared for me and my family, in Jesus’ name.

HYMN 5: Blessed Assurance, Jesus Is Mine!

1  Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine;

Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!

Heir of salvation, purchase of God,

Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Chorus:

This is my story, this is my song,

Praising my Savior all the day long.

This is my story, this is my song,

Praising my Savior all the day long.

2 Perfect submission, perfect delight,

Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;

Angels descending, bring from above

Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

3 Perfect submission, all is at rest,

I in my Savior am happy and blest;

Watching and waiting, looking above,

Filled with His goodness, lost in His love

MEMORISE: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great, and thou shalt be a blessing: Genesis 12:2

READ: Isaiah 35:1-10 (KJV)

1 The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.

2 It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the Lord, and the excellency of our God.

3 Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees.

4 Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.

5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.

6 Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.

7 And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

8 And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.

9 No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there:

10 And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

HYMN 22: Sweet Hour Of Prayer!

1. Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!

that calls me from a world of care,

and bids me at my Father’s throne

make all my wants and wishes known.

In seasons of distress and grief,

my soul has often found relief,

and oft escaped the tempter’s snare

by thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

2. Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!

the joys I feel, the bliss I share

of those whose anxious spirits burn

with strong desires for thy return!

With such I hasten to the place

where God my Savior shows his face,

and gladly take my station there,

and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

3. Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!

thy wings shall my petition bear

to him whose truth and faithfulness

engage the waiting soul to bless.

And since he bids me seek his face,

believe his word, and trust his grace,

I’ll cast on him my every care,

and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

MEMORISE: There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rideth upto the heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the sky Deuteronomy 33:26

READ: Psalm 124:1-8(KJV)

1 If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, now may Israel say;

2 If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us:

3 Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:

4 Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:

5 Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.

6 Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.

7 Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.

8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Genesis 1-4

Open Heaven For Today 2023 MESSAGE

It is new year, and you have every reason to thank God. You may think that last year did not go as you planned, but believe me, if not for God's mercy, you wouldn't have survived the year (Lamentation 3:22). This is why you shouldn't make the mistake of complaining to God and grumbling about things that didn't go as you wanted. Rather, you should thank Him for bringing you this far. If you go into the year with thanksgiving, you are assured of access to the One who can make you have a great year (Psalm 100:4). However, if you go into the year with complaints, especially complaints against the only One who can help you, you are treading dangerously. Numbers 11:1 says

And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camps.

In 1 Samuel 7:12, prophets Samuel said,

"Hitherto you have helped us."

In other words, this means,

"In the journeys thus far, we have received help from you."

This is a statement of survivors - those who say,

"Thank God I have made it this far."

Today's Bible reading says that if the Lord had not been on your side, we would not be where we are now.

You can never tell how many battles God has fought for you. You may not even know how many victories He has given you. As for me, thus far in my journey of life, God has helped me. Despite everything the devil has tried, I am still here. If you are a survivor, you should really spend some time thanking God for all He has done for you.

If you passed through tough situations last you and you are alive now and reading this, then you have indeed been helped by God. If last year went smoothly for you, despite all the troubles in the world, then you have also been helped by God, for without Him, you could not have achieved anything (John 15:5). Whichever your case was, you should be very grateful to Him for all the help He rendered to you (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

Beloved, go ahead now and sing praises to the Lord. Spend the day thinking about His goodness to you, and ensure you enter into this new year with thanksgiving. It is the foundation for receiving more from Him.

Key Point

Give thanks to God for all He has done for you, and be prepared to receive more from Him this year

HYMN 17: Praise My Soul, The King Of Heaven

1 Praise, my soul, the King of heaven;

to his feet your tribute bring.

Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,

evermore his praises sing.

Alleluia, alleluia!

Praise the everlasting King!

2 Praise him for his grace and favor

to his people in distress.

Praise him, still the same as ever,

slow to chide, and swift to bless.

Alleluia, alleluia!

Glorious in his faithfulness!

3 Fatherlike he tends and spares us;

well our feeble frame he knows.

In his hand he gently bears us,

rescues us from all our foes.

Alleluia, alleluia!

Widely yet his mercy flows!

4 Angels, help us to adore him;

you behold him face to face.

Sun and moon, bow down before him,

dwellers all in time and space.

Alleluia, alleluia!

Praise with us the God of grace!

Open Heaven For Today 2024 Sunday Daily Devotional By Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Handling Criticisms

TOPIC: Handling Criticisms

MEMORISE: Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. Hebrews 12:11

READ: Proverbs 15:31-32 (KJV)

31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.

32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Revelation 18-19

Open Heaven For Today 2023 MESSAGE

A lot of people think that being a leader means that whatever they say or do is final and should not be questioned.

If you are making any progress in life, criticisms will definitely come.

When The Redeemed Christian Church of God was just a small church with headquarters in a small corner of Ebute-metta, no one criticised us.

Now that we have branches all around the world, criticisms come in from everywhere. This is a sign of growth, and rather than being sad about it, l am happy that we have grown.

Some people will criticize you out of love because your success means a lot to them. Some will criticize you out of spite because they are envious of you and want you to fail.

Either way, your attitude to criticism is what will determine if you will succeed or fail.

Proverbs 1:5-7 says: A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Beloved, be open to suggestions from your subordinates or people who you consider younger or less experienced than you.

When they tell you that you are not doing something right, listen to them without getting defensive or aggressive.

If you grumble and sulk for days because you were criticized, you need to speak to yourself so that you can last.

No matter what people say about you, you must never give the impression that you are above correction.

Moses was the anointed one who was called by God. He spoke to God mouth to mouth (Numbers 12:8), yet the solution to the challenge he had in ministry was with his father-in-law who did not have the same intimacy with God as he did.

You may be the head of your home, Chief Executive Officer or pastor, but that does not mean you know it all.

Believe me, every criticism is an opportunity for you to become a better person. If you take it well, you will become better.

The choice is yours. Some of the decisions we made that helped us become better were responses to criticism.

I know some of the critics meant harm, but God used them to show us how to do things better, and we are growing stronger for it.

Key Point

Always see criticism as an opportunity to grow, not an opportunity to fight the critic.

HYMN 19: Rock Of Ages, Cleft For Me

1 Rock of Ages, cleft for me,

let me hide myself in thee;

let the water and the blood,

from thy wounded side which flowed,

be of sin the double cure;

save from wrath and make me pure.

2 Not the labors of my hands

can fulfill thy law’s demands;

could my zeal no respite know,

could my tears forever flow,

all for sin could not atone;

thou must save, and thou alone.

3 Nothing in my hand I bring,

simply to the cross I cling;

naked, come to thee for dress;

helpless, look to thee for grace;

foul, I to the fountain fly;

wash me, Savior, or I die.

4 While I draw this fleeting breath,

when mine eyes shall close in death,

when I soar to worlds unknown,

see thee on thy judgment throne,

Rock of Ages, cleft for me,

let me hide myself in thee.
